After managing to spend two weeks in India eating nothing but curry (well, almost) and drinking mostly beer, and only putting on 1lb, I managed to put on over half a stone over Christmas.

Back to the drawing board, then.

Full marks for the self assessment - I don't do New Year's resolutions. I'd always planned to get back to what I was doing once Christmas was out of the way.

But back to your post. Something that's always worked for me is to try to change one thing at a time. I think you need to decide whether it's losing weight, playing the drums, or becoming more buddhist that you really want to do, and do that first.

Then I think you need to look at that one thing, and decide why you want it. I don't want to be thinner, per se. I want to be healthier, and the fastest and easiest way for me to do that is to lose another 20lbs. I'd rather control my diet for a few months than go to a torture chamber every day or two or going running - I can't think of anything more boring (my attention span in a gym doesn't last until I'm out of breath, and I'm pretty unfit!!)

So once you know what and why, the final question is "is that the right goal".

Do you really want to play the drums, or do you just want an outlet for your passions and anxieties?

Do you really want to be a buddhist, or is your goal really to have some clear view of the world, which buddhism is the closest match. Can you pick and choose the elements that are important to you and focus on those to start with?I Wanna Be Overweighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16691005794047344626noreply@blogger.com
